VX-8DE

Very compact three band radio (6m, 2m, 70cm) by Yaesu. The VX-8DE has a very solid construction and is submersible down to 1m for 30 minutes. With the four large buttons on the side, most often used functions can be reached even when wearing gloves. The supplied 1100mAh LiIon battery holds for 5 hours and more, a high capacity battery with 1800 mAh or a battery case is available optionally.

The VX-8DE is equipped with two receivers and allows operation on two bands frequencies at the same time, even in the same band (V/V, U/U, V/U). A third, independant receiver for AM/FM broadcast is also included and uses a bar antenna for AM reception. The wideband receiver operates from 500 kHz to 999.9 MHz. The large and versatile LC display (dot matrix) shows either one or both operating frequencies, symbols for various modes, the battery voltage and much more. The more than 1200 memories can be tagged with a 16 character alpha-numeric name.

A special highlight is the APRS function of the VX-8DE. APRS messages are received, decoded and diplayed (either 1200 or 9600 bps). The display shows direction and distance, speed and symbol (icon) of the remote station as well as weather and other APRS data. With the optional GPS receiver FGPS-2 (12 channels) the VX-8E can display and transmit it's own position data. But even without the FGPS-2 manually entered position data can be transmitted!

Compared to it's predecessor VX-8E, the VX-8DE has many enhanced options for APRS: more memories for stations and messages, selectable digi path etc. For a full comparision please see table below.

VX-8GE

Another novelty is the the Bluetooth capability. With the optional Bluetooth unit BU-1 and any BT headset complete handsfree operation becomes possible. Whether you are on the bike or hiking in the mountains, your hands remain free.

Many more function like the built in barometer (air pressure) and a built in thermometer, allow to display the current height above sea level. The display can show an audio or HF spectrum. More than 1200 memories are organized in 24 banks, each memory can use a 16 character alpha-numeric name. Plus a backlit keyboard, built-in CTCSS de/encoder, VOX function, Clock with On/Off timer and much much more...

And the intelligent scan system the large number of memories can be checked very fast. The FM deviation can be adjusted to ±2.5 or ±5kHz, making a 12.5kHz raster usable without interference.
